Overview
Vobster Quay is a managed inland dive site in the heart of Somerset. It has everything we need for teaching GUE Open Water, GUE Fundamentals, GUE Performance Diver and GUE CCR Fundamentals. It’s also ideal for coaching days at almost any level.
The water is generally clear, with plenty of platforms, depth variation and many attractions from the old quarry workings through to aeroplanes and sunken boats. There are heated changing rooms and toilet facilities too.
Vobster has on-site food, gas supply, some equipment rental and a small dive shop. Everything works through the “band system”. Once you check in at reception, you’ll get a rubber band with a number. Your site entry, food, gas and anything else you buy goes on this tab number and you settle up at the end of the day, It’s an efficient and convenient system.
In the winter months, please remember to bring warm dry clothing. There is not much shelter from the elements although it’s normally possible to get out of the rain.
If you are working with Wreck and Cave then you’ll be sent a registration link for your day(s) at Vobster. You’ll need to follow one link for each day you’re there and fill in the details.
If there are any academics or lectures to be done on your class, then remember these will be done at Wreck and Cave HQ, 20 minutes away in Shepton Mallet.

Accommodation options
There’s plenty of BnB accommodation around, but a few notable ones are:
The Oakhill Inn. This is halfway between Vobster Quay and the Wreck and Cave offices. Great food, and a very comfortable country pub.
The Vobster Inn. This is just a stone’s throw from the dive site. It’s comfortable, convenient and the food is good.
Premier Inn, Frome It’s a Premier Inn – you know what you’ll get!
AirBnB has quite a few options as well.
If you want a lower budget option then the caving clubs often have availability in their club houses. Think sleeping bags, communal bunk rooms and no frills.
