Overview
Capernwray Diving is in the North of England on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. It’s an old stone quarry and is now an established, well-developed dive site. The water is clear, with several platforms at varying depths that make it ideal for GUE Open Water courses, GUE Performance Diver, GUE Fundamentals and even GUE CCR Fundamentals.
Capernwray has a dive shop, gas filling facilities, plenty of rental equipment (by prior arrangement) and a cafe offering great food in a warm environment. You can even wear your wet gear inside. There are warm changing rooms and toilet facilities.
In winter months, please bring warm dry clothes for any work we do outside.
To get into the site you’ll need to be a registered member, but you can do that on your way into the site.
Please do not arrive to the site early. If you arrive early, then you’ll not be able to get in, and you’ll be parked on the road. It’s a small country lane and when lots of divers do this, it causes a lot of disruption. So please aim to arrive no more than 5 minutes before opening time.
Location
Classroom work
All classroom work at Capernwray courses is done at the Silverdale Hotel. The owner, Richard, is also a diver and kindly lets us use the back room of his pub for classroom work. It’s also the place I stay. The rooms are comfortable, and the food is excellent. It’s a 20-minute drive from Silverdale to Capernwray, so it’s an ideal spot.
Accommodation
The Silverdale Hotel. this is a lovey pub with rooms, run by Richard and Caroline. Richard is a keen diver and is always interested in how you’re getting on with the course, and also serves amazing pies!
The Royal Station Hotel. It’s convenient and midway between The Silverdale and Capernwray.
Truckhaven. It’s a truck stop. Cheaper but it works.
Swimming Pool
If your training course needs a swim test, then we’ll most likely do it at the Carnforth Community pool.
