3rd-8th September 2023
Over the 3rd-8th September, we’ll be running the Scapa Flow Battleship week, in the Orkney Islands. Here we’ll be diving the world famous battleships and cruisers of the German high seas fleet. These ships were scuttled at the end of World War 1, and are now a wreck diving heaven. Huge 12″ guns can be seen on the battleships, beautiful bows rise up from the depths, and the remains of these great fighting ships are there for you to explore, photograph and remember.
Every evening, we’ll give a short presentation of the history of the events leading up to this amazing event. This is a fascinating insight into the wrecks, and really puts the dives into context. The dive briefings will focus on the specific layout and construction of these battleships, and explain how to orient yourselves properly and see all of the important features.
We will use MV Clasina, skippered by Bob Anderson. This is one of the best dive platform and live aboard vessels in Scapa Flow. Every night we head back into Stromness harbour where we stay overnight. There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants to choose from, and do a little sightseeing. The weather in Scapa Flow is almost always diveable, as it is a very good natural harbour. We plan to do 12 dives over 6 days, making the Scapa Battleship week a really great way to spend a weeks diving.
